Return Policy

amapei is a publisher, not a shop. This page explains who handles your return, what your rights are as a UK consumer, and exactly how to start a return for a product you found through our pages.

1. Who you are buying from

amapei does not sell, stock, dispatch or invoice any product. Every purchase you make after clicking a link on this site is a contract between you and the third-party retailer whose checkout you complete — for the Electric Gear Shark Toy, that retailer is topgadgetlife.com. All returns, refunds, replacements and warranty claims must therefore be raised with that retailer, whose own returns policy and timescales apply to your order. We are happy to help you make contact if you get stuck — email [email protected].

2. Your 14-day right to cancel (UK)

Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, if you are a consumer buying at distance you normally have 14 days from the day you receive the goods to cancel the order for any reason, and a further 14 days to send the goods back. You do not have to give a reason. The seller must refund you within 14 days of receiving the goods back (or of proof of return), including the standard outbound delivery cost.

  • You may be responsible for the cost of return postage unless the seller states otherwise or the item is faulty.
  • You may inspect and handle the item as you would in a shop; if you go beyond that and reduce its value, the seller may deduct a proportionate amount.
  • Retain proof of posting and, for higher-value items, use a tracked service — the item remains your responsibility until it arrives.

Note that some sellers outside the UK apply their own contractual returns window instead. Where a seller's policy is more generous than the law, the more generous terms apply; where it is less generous, your statutory rights against that seller still stand.

3. Faulty, damaged, incomplete or misdescribed items

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If they are not:

  • Within 30 days — you can reject the goods and ask for a full refund.
  • Within 6 months — you can ask for a repair or replacement; if that fails, you can claim a refund, which may be reduced to reflect use after the first six months.
  • Up to 6 years (5 in Scotland) — you may still have a claim for goods that were faulty at the point of sale.

For a battery-operated toy such as the Electric Gear Shark, please check the obvious first — fresh, correctly oriented AA batteries and the on/off switch — before opening a fault claim. If lights, sound or the walking mechanism genuinely fail, photograph or film the fault; sellers almost always ask for this and it speeds up a replacement.

4. How to start a return

  • Find your order confirmation email from the retailer and note the order number.
  • Contact the retailer's customer service through the address or contact form on their site, state the order number and whether you are cancelling (change of mind) or reporting a fault.
  • Include clear photographs of the item, the packaging and any damage, plus a short video for mechanical or electronic faults.
  • Wait for a returns authorisation and return address before posting — items sent back unannounced are often refused.
  • Keep the tracking number until your refund or replacement is confirmed.

5. Items that are usually excluded

The statutory cancellation right does not normally apply to personalised or bespoke items, sealed audio/video or software once unsealed, perishable goods, or hygiene-sealed products where the seal is broken. Standard toys such as the Electric Gear Shark are not excluded, but sellers may ask that the item is returned complete, with all inserts and accessories, and in a condition fit for resale where you are cancelling rather than reporting a fault.

6. Import charges and cross-border returns

Where the retailer ships to the UK from outside the country, VAT, duty or a carrier handling fee may be charged on delivery. If you return the goods you may be able to reclaim import VAT and duty from HMRC using the appropriate relief or repayment form; the seller is not obliged to refund charges it never collected. Please factor return postage to an overseas address into your decision before ordering.

7. If a return goes wrong

If a seller does not respond or refuses a valid claim, escalate in this order: the seller's formal complaints route; your card issuer or PayPal (chargeback or buyer protection, usually within 120 days); the marketplace or payment provider's dispute process; and finally the Citizens Advice consumer service on 0808 223 1133, which can refer matters to Trading Standards. We cannot process refunds or intervene in your contract, but we will always pass on any working contact route we hold for a retailer we have featured.

8. Changes to this policy

We review this page whenever the law or a featured retailer's terms change, and the date at the top of the page reflects the most recent revision. Questions about this policy can be sent to [email protected].
